Proper Documenting and Progressive Discipline

Course Overview
The proper management of documentation and progressive discipline when dealing with employee behavioral issues is crucial to any organization. Essential to that process are good, effective communication skills, which help to ensure that all policies are clearly and concisely stated, and that everyone interprets the rules in the same way.

This course addresses the steps necessary to maintain high disciplinary standards while retaining good employees. The importance of viewing discipline not simply as a punishment, but first and foremost as a way to help employees develop, is emphasized, along with the importance of defining clear objectives so that employees know what is expected in terms of behavior and performance. A five-step process for documenting performance and behavioral issues, and the procedures and questions for a beneficial disciplinary interview, are explored, along with potential employee reactions to these disciplinary interviews and recommendations for dealing with these reactions.
